Many know about lung cancer – but few know about ALK Positive Lung Cancer. Discovered in 2007, ALK Positive Lung Cancer is caused by a mutation of the ALK gene. It is not thought to be a disease that is inherited, or can be passed on to others in any way. Also known as the “never smokers” lung cancer, ALK Positive cancer is not caused by your typically associated risk factors. It is thought to occur in about ~10,000 people in the US and 100,000 people worldwide, every year.
With the promise of new targeted therapies and innovations in Biotech, a revolution is taking place now on how we treat lung cancer, extending life and moving us closer to managing this disease as a chronic condition and hopefully soon – a cure.
